Braunlage: Wintersport und Wurmberg im Oberharz
Braunlage is the winter-sports capital of the Harz: the Wurmberg cable car floats up Lower Saxony's highest mountain, whose flanks carry the longest downhill runs in northern Germany. In summer, monster scooters, the bike park and the trail network take command.
The accommodation is geared to active guests: holiday houses like The Cabin and the Harzresort am Brocken in the Schierke district go for modern cabin atmosphere, while classic houses like the Sonnenhof and guesthouses like the Parkblick maintain traditional Harz hospitality. Self-caterers find lodges and apartments in every size, from the Haus Ursula to the WLodgeOne.
Braunlage is also strategically placed: the Brocken, the Bode Gorge and the border museums along the Harz Border Trail are quick targets. Book directly with the host and you save the portal fee – and know before the first lift whether the Wurmberg's north slopes still carry powder.
