Cuxhaven is Germany's largest North Sea health resort – where the Elbe becomes the sea and the wooden Kugelbake beacon, the town's landmark, marks the northernmost point of Lower Saxony. The beaches of Duhnen, Döse and Sahlenburg look out over the UNESCO-listed Wadden Sea, across which horse-drawn wagons and walkers make for the island of Neuwerk.
